Design

Beginning with the design, the iPhone 14 Pro retains the same back design as the iPhone 13 Pro. The rear glass has the same frosted matte surface and a glossy finish surrounding the camera module, as well as the stainless-steel frame, which looks fantastic but is a fingerprint magnet.

iPhone 14 pro vs iPhone 13 pro: Design

Both phones have three cameras on the back, however, Apple has improved the primary camera to 48MP snapper this year. The camera hump is greater as well. The largest design modification, though, is on the front.

The pill-shaped cut-out that was the iPhone 13 Pro’s notch has taken its place. The Face ID array has also been reduced by 30% from last year by Apple, making the pill much smaller than the notch.

Apple claims that the iPhone 14 Pro’s bezels surrounding the display are also somewhat slimmer. The Lightning port, as well as the speaker and microphone grilles, remain at the bottom.

The button layout stays consistent, and there are no surprises with the power, volume, or alert slider. Everything is identical to prior iPhones.

Display

There are just a few very small hardware-related variations between the iPhone 14 Pro’s display and that of the iPhone 13 Pro.

Both phones have the same 6.1-inch screen (6.7-inch if you choose the Pro Max variants), and both have the same 460ppi pixel density. Even though the 14 Pro’s a somewhat bigger screen, the resolution of the two phones differs.

The screen brightness levels differ between the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro. While the iPhone 13 Pro has a standard display brightness of 1000 nits and an HDR brightness of 1200 nits, the iPhone 14 Pro has an HDR brightness of 1600 nits.

Furthermore, the iPhone 14 Pro display can reach 2000nits in bright sunlight for improved visibility.

Pro Motion 120Hz technology is supported by both monitors. But the iPhone 14 Pro makes use of a brand-new LTPO screen that enables the display to operate at a frequency as low as 1Hz, making it possible to employ the much anticipated Always on Display feature as well.

The new phone will reduce the refresh rate to 1Hz and darken the screen so that you can still see the clock and alerts without fully waking the device up. Additionally, according to Apple, the AOD on the iPhone 14 Pro will support live notifications.

This means that if you have a timer or the score of a game running on your lock screen, it will continue to update in real time.

Performance Differences

The non-pro variants of the iPhone 14 use the same A15 Bionic CPU as last year’s iPhone 13 series, while the iPhone 14 Pro has the upgraded A16 Bionic chipset.

This new chip is constructed on a 4nm technology, making it more efficient and speedier than the A15 Bionic, which was constructed on a 5nm process.

Similar to the A15 Bionic, the A16 Bionic has a 6-core CPU. Along with these, there are 4 high-efficiency cores and 2 high-performance cores. A 5-core GPU is also there to support the iPhone 14 Pro’s complete graphics requirements.

Additionally, the 16-core Neural Engine power various machine learning and AI capabilities on the iPhone, including the new Photonic engine for enhanced photography.

Aside from these (and the ISP), the A16 Bionic contains a Display Engine, which allows features like the 1Hz refresh rate for the Always on Display, increased (2000 nits) brightness, and even anti-aliasing and other animations that run throughout the system, particularly on the Dynamic Island.

Although we haven’t yet tested the new A16 Bionic in real-world situations, it’s reasonable to assume that it will be among the quickest smartphone CPUs and perform far better than the A15 Bionic replaces.

Having said that, the A15 Bionic shouldn’t be underestimated and will continue to be a reliable smartphone chipset for a few more years.

Camera

Moving on to the cameras, the iPhone 14 Pro has a 48MP main camera combined with a 12MP + 12MP ultra-wide and telephoto lens. This 48MP primary camera uses quad-pixel binning, meaning you’ll receive more light in 12MP shots by default.

In addition, the phone employs a crop of the same sensor to provide a 2x zoom option. Whereas, the iPhone 13 Pro featured a 12MP triple rear camera setup and no 2x zoom button.

iPhone 14 pro camera

The new iPhone sports the same 12MP front-facing camera as the iPhone 13 Pro, but the aperture has been adjusted to f/1.9 from f/2.2. This implies that selfies taken on the iPhone 14 Pro should seem better in low light.

Additionally, the new iPhone includes focusing on the selfie camera. So you can capture group selfies with greater clarity and detail.

Dual SIM and eSIM

In most countries, iPhones have had dual SIM functionality for some time, using a nano-SIM + eSIM setup. However, with the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple is eliminating the SIM tray from US editions of the iPhone.

This implies that US users will only be allowed to utilize an eSIM in the iPhone 14 Pro. Whereas, the iPhone 13 Pro included a SIM tray that could contain a nano SIM card as well as support for an extra eSIM.

iPhone 14 Pro Price in India

The price of the base 128GB model of the iPhone 14 Pro is $999, while the price of the base model of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is $1099.

This is excellent news because Apple has maintained the same prices for the new iPhones as last year, despite some rumors that the price of the new iPhone 14 Pro would increase somewhat.

iPhone 14 Pro Price

The pricing of the iPhone 14 Pro in India is Rs. 1,29,900, while the price of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is Rs. 1,39,900. The iPhone 13 Pro was introduced in India last year for Rs. 1,19,900, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max cost Rs. 1,29,900.

iPhone 14 Pro vs 13 Pro: Should You Upgrade?

The most crucial question of all is if the iPhone 14 Pro is worth your money. The answer is that it depends. To begin, if you have an iPhone 12 or later, you don’t need to update it right now. For one thing, your phone can easily survive another couple of years, so why waste money?

However, the only reason I would recommend the iPhone 14 Pro to someone who already has an iPhone 12 or newer is for the new design and the improved camera system.

Upgrading to the iPhone 14 Pro might be a no-brainer for a faster processor, vastly upgraded cameras, a brighter display, and a Pro Motion 120Hz refresh rate.

It’s fantastic to know that the new iPhone 14 Pro comes with a tonne of very cool new features, whether you’re contemplating upgrading from the iPhone 13 Pro to it or simply replacing an older iPhone after a few years.
